May is THE Month to Transfer Your Rewards Points to Velocity Frequent Flyer Miles
As a British expat in Australia, it’s fair to say I’ve covered my fair share of air space on my trips back and forth to the UK. Weddings, babies being born and Westlife reunion tours (yes seriously) beckon me back to my home country at least once a year, but it wasn’t until recently that I turned my attention to frequent flyer miles.
No, that’s not as dumb as it sounds. As it turns out, the flights back and forth on what’s usually the cheapest sale fare I can get my grubby millennial hands on were never going to be my key to lounge access and business class upgrades. Yes, I was spending thousands on flights, but the fare types I was buying weren’t the points-earning kind - and flicking between various airlines didn’t do me any favours either. But with prices fluctuating as much as they do, I still saved money in the long run.
Anyway, my point is, instead of signing up to the expensive Qantas rewards program and forking out a few hundred bucks extra on each flight to ensure I fly with that same airline, I joined Velocity rewards instead. Within 3 months, I had almost 100K points - largely from a credit card bonus, and the rest from racking up points on everyday purchases.
You can actually earn hundreds of thousands of Velocity frequent flyer points, without boarding a single flight. Even if you don’t have a credit card that earns Velocity points, you can transfer points from other rewards schemes to Velocity at a fair rate. BUT, in May, something special happens.
For the last two years, May has marked Velocity’s bonus points transfer promotion period. You know what that means? More Velocity points for less. Woohoo!
This month, you can get bonus Velocity points when you convert rewards from other providers.
I’ll be transferring from my ANZ Rewards points, and scooping a massive 50% bonus (20% Velocity and 30% ANZ booster) on my Velocity points! That means, for the 20,000 ANZ points I have, I’ll get 15,000 Velocity points when I transfer before 31st May 2019. The usual conversion rate is 1 ANZ point for 0.5 Velocity points, so with the promotion you’re effectively getting a 0.75 conversion rate instead. YEEHAH.
So, which partner rewards programs can I get bonus Velocity points when I transfer?
The following rewards points transfers to Velocity will get you a tiered bonus depending on how many points you transfer:
1-250,000 Velocity points = 15% bonus Velocity points
250,001-500,000 Velocity points = 20% bonus Velocity points
500,001+ Velocity points = 25% bonus Velocity points
Bonus Velocity Points American Express
Bonus Velocity Points NAB Rewards
Bonus Velocity Points Westpac Altitude Rewards
Bonus Velocity Points Citi Bank
Bonus Velocity Points HSBC
Bonus Velocity Points Diners Club
Bonus Velocity Points Bank of Queensland Q Rewards
Bonus Velocity Points Card Services
Bonus Velocity Points Suncorp
So to clarify, your bonus is calculated against how many Velocity points you would get from a normal transfer, and added from there.
Transferring Commbank Awards to Velocity Points
Bonus Velocity Points CommBank Awards = 25% bonus Velocity points
Transfer ANZ Rewards and Hotel Partner Points to Velocity Points
With the following points and hotel rewards programs, you’ll score 20% bonus Velocity points. Transfer from ANZ Rewards or ANZ Business Rewards and get a 30% boost on your points transfer (as I mentioned earlier).
Bonus Velocity Points ANZ Rewards
Bonus Velocity Points ANZ Business Rewards
Bonus Velocity Points Marriott Bonvoy
Bonus Velocity Points Le Club Accor Hotels
Bonus Velocity Points Shangri-La
Bonus Velocity Points Hilton Honors
Bonus Velocity Points IHG Rewards Club
Transfer Flybuys points to Velocity Points
